All India trek concludes

 SHILLONG: The All India Trek, 2011 organized by Shillong Group HQ, NCC on behalf of NER Directorate concluded here on Tuesday. The accommodation and allied infrastructure for the event which started on December 7 was provided by DGAR at Assam Rifles Public school.

The trek was attended by 478 Cadets and Associate NCC Officers from all States of India.

The trek was organized on five different routes with base camp located at ARPS. These routes culminated at Smit village, Sweet Falls, Elephant Falls, Don Bosco Museum and Shillong Peak. The trek was flagged off by Brig VS Dheman, Deputy Director General of North Eastern Region NCC Directorate, Shillong on December 9.

The trek was aimed at inculcating a spirit of adventure, self confidence, team spirit and interaction with children from different parts of country.

During the trek, an awareness programme was also organized aimed to awaken the concern for preservation of our environment and ecological balance, religious belief and culture.

An educational tour was organized to get the real picture of North-east cultural heritage and society.

The trek concluded with camp fire and cultural programme performed by the cadets of different states.

The closing address was delivered by Trek Manager, Col Alok Maggu.
