NONGSTOIN: The 35 km Nongstoin Maweit road construction which started about five years ago is yet to be completed.

The road is the lifeline for a large numbers of farmers in the district who practice shifting cultivation. Due to the dilapidated road condition, the farmers cannot bring their products to the Nongstoin market.

A local resident of Maweit village L.Lyngdoh told this scribe on Friday that the construction of the Nongstoin-Maweit road commenced since the year 1963.Today after 47 years the condition of this road is worse without any repair. The road takes over 4 hours to travel by bus which certifies how bad its condition is.

Some of the NGO leaders of the area told that hundreds of memoranda have been placed on the table of the successive chief ministers of the state, but till now none of them have taken any action.
