SHILLONG: George B Lyngdoh, president of UDP, Umroi circle and son of former Chief Minister late EK Mawlong, on Thursday resigned from the primary membership of the party on.

Lyngdoh cited personal reasons behind his resignation which he tendered to the office bearers of the UDP in Ri Bhoi district, and also to the leaders of the UDP central body.

Along with George, the family members of the late Chief Minister have also

dissociated themselves from the party.

Late Mawlong was the founding president and one of the chief architects behind formation of the UDP which was formed on September 11, 1997 with the unification of the HPU, PDIC and a faction of the HSPDP.

It may be reminded that George had contested the Umroi bye-election held in February 2009 following the demise of his father in October 2008.
