SHILLONG: Suspected militants abducted a brick kiln owner Munna Khan from near the Assam-Meghalaya border on Tuesday evening.

According to police, Khan was abducted by a group of motorcycle-borne militants while he was inspecting a brick factory at Khardang around 1 km away from Mendipathar in East Garo Hills adjacent to Krishnai which falls under Goalpara district of Assam.

Police have not been able to establish the identity of the group involved in the abduction.

“We are cross-checking to find out whether this is the handiwork of GNLA or Rabha militant groups,” police said.

Meanwhile, police said that the abduction took place at around 1 pm. But the matter was reported to the Goalpara police station at around 4.30 pm.

Police from Goalpara, Assam said that the family members were not revealing much fearing that the abductors might cause him harm.
