JOWAI: The new ‘No Entry’ timing for coal laden trucks imposed by the government and implemented since Tuesday has badly affected the smooth flow of vehicular movement along the national highway Shillong-Jowai Road on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

The government has fixed new ‘No Entry’ timing for coal laden trucks with a motive to control traffic jam along the NH-44 particularly in the city capital. But the new timing has instead created more disturbance in vehicular movement.

Commuters travelling on the congested national highway have to spend many hours along the road before they can reach their desitnation.

The new ‘No Entry’ timing fixed for coal laden trucks is 8 am to 8 pm. During the ‘no entry’ hours coal laden trucks have to park all along the road side making the road a one way traffic in those areas causing traffic jams.

Traffic police of Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills have been directed to check the new timing.

Coal laden trucks were parked along the roadside on the NH-44 at Ialong and Wahmynsoo and they were not allowed to ply as it would cause heavy traffic jam in Shillong.

Traffic jams become more serious when the timing was over. After 8 pm, all these coal laden trucks are ready to rush overtaking one another cuasing traffic jam in various stretches of the highway.

People from Jaintia hills have opposed the timing implemented and urged the government to withdraw the timing and find out some other options to solve the traffic jam.
