SHILLONG: As a mark of appreciation and encouragement to the children who have excelled in their studies, the KSU Umjaiur Unit gave away the Maitshaphrang Award to ten students from class V to class IX of the locality at Mawlai Umjaiur Community Hall here on Thursday.

The 2nd Maitshaphrang Award 2011 was organized with an aim to encourage the young minds to work hard and achieve the fruits of success in their future endeavors at the same time to do away with the problem of drop outs among the school students. The KSU Umjaiur unit last year gave away seven awards to such students ranging from class V to IX and this year the number has risen to ten.

“Just as plants required nurturing while they are at their nascent stage, same way, children need to be groomed while they are still young and their hardwork needs to be given due recognition”, Organizing Secretary of the KSU Central Body Joe Joplang Marbaniang stated.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Joe said in this IT age where science and technology plays an important role in shaping the future of this world, it poses a great challenge to the young students as far as education is concerned.

Urging the young students to carry on this legacy with them, Marbaniang instructed the students to be humble and even work harder in order to come out with flying colors in the future.

The ten students who received the Maitshaphrang award include—Kyntiewlin Lyngkhoi, Syngkharupa Kharbani, Orson Kharlukhi of class V, Elene Kharlyngdoh, Wanika Kharbani of class VI, Phibapynhun Kharjahreiñ, Shefilynda Kharlyngdoh, Bawansuk Lyngkhoi and Adolf N Narthong of class VIII.

The award was also given to Banteinamshaphrang Thabah for his achievement in the recent Secondary School Leaving certificate Examination.
