JOWAI: Concerned over the increase in crime in Jaintia Hills district particularly within the mineral- rich Khliehriat civil sub-division, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) have asked all rangbah shnong (village headman)to take initiative measures to prevent crime in their respective jurisdictions.

According to the AJYWO, influx is one of the main reasons behind crime such as murder, rape which is highly reported in the coal belt area of Khliehriat sub-division .

“We are deeply concerned over the rise in crime in the sub-division and blame the government’s irresponsibility to control influx in the area”, AJYWO President, MH Dkhar said.

The AJYWO also blamed rangbah shnong within Khliehriat Sub-Division for their selfish interest allowing all illegal migrants to take shelter in their coal fields and even at their homes without verifying their nationality.

“Concerned rangbah shnong should properly screen all those migrant workers while they are employed by different employers in their respective villages”, Dkhar said.

The AJYWO feels that the implementation of the work permit will greatly help to control influx in the state.
