‘Security to be enhanced in Ri Bhoi district’

 SHILLONG: Taking strong cognizance of the crime which is often reported along the Guwahati- Shillong road, the Ri Bhoi district administration will review the security situation in the district as well as along the National Highway, a major portion of which passes through the Ri Bhoi district.

It may be mentioned that recently the family members of a BSF personnel, travelling in a vehicle, were looted and some of them assaulted near Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi district on Friday night by miscreants.

However, this is not the only incident which has taken place along the highway earlier too many assault and looting cases have been reported from the NH 40.

The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akashdeep on Sunday said that an extra manpower of police is likely to be deployed in the district to maintain law and order along the district as well as the important highway.

The family members of a BSF personnel were being followed in a sumo by miscreants and the family was accosted after their vehicle had stopped due to the traffic snarl at a place near Nongpoh.

According to Akash Deep, the security mechanism will be further enhanced to ensure that this kind of incident is not repeated .

It may be mentioned that hundreds of vehicles including trucks carrying essential commodities ply on this road on an average day.
