Mumbai: Clint Eastwood directed drama J Edgar, which may get Leonardo DiCaprio his next Oscar nomination for playing the first FBI chief J Edgar Hoover, is slated to release in India on January 20.

Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros Pictures, the film explores the personal and public life and relationships of a man who could distort the truth as easily as he upheld it during a life devoted to his own idea of justice, often swayed by the darker side of power.

During his lifetime, J. Edgar Hoover would rise to be the most powerful man in America. As head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years, he would see eight presidents and three wars.

Hoover waged battle against threats both real and perceived. Oscar-winner Eastwood directed the film from a screenplay by Dustin Lance Black, another Oscar-winner. DiCaprio, recently seen in films like Inception, The Aviator stars in the title role.

Naomi Watts plays Helen Gandy, Hoover’s longtime secretary, Armie Hammer as Hoover’s lifelong friend Clyde Tolson, Josh Lucas and Judi Dench. (PTI)
