Indo-Pak contestants to battle it out on singing talent show

Islamabad: Two TV channels from India and Pakistan have come together to produce a reality television singing competition that will feature singers Atif Aslam and Himesh Reshammiya leading teams representing the two countries.

The show named ‘Sur Kshetra’ is being produced by Pakistan’s Geo TV and Sahara TV of India. Judges for the competition include famous singers Asha Bhosle of India, Runa Laila of Bangladesh and Abida Parveen of Pakistan. The Pakistani and Indian contestants will be divided into two teams.

Singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya will lead the Indian side comprising 10 upcoming stars that will compete against the Pakistani side led by singer and actor Atif Aslam, who recently had a key role in the film “Bol”.

Auditions for selecting the Pakistani team will be held in Lahore and Karachi on January 17 and 18, according to an announcement from the organisers. Geo TV has begun beaming an advertisement for the show that features Aslam squaring off against Reshammiya.

In the promo, Aslam says: “This battle is not easy, it is a musical conflict and we have to win.” Reshammiya retorts that the “fire of passion” also burns in Indian hearts and that his team is prepared for a battle of tunes. Aslam is best known for hit songs like Woh Lamhe, Tere Bin, Tu Jaane Na and Tere Liye Reshammiya had his first success as a music director with the 2003 film “Tere Naam”.

Reshammiya launched his acting career with the film Aap Kaa Surroor – The Real Love Story. Shooting of the musical competition will soon start in Dubai after the auditions are completed. (PTI)
