TURA: The residents of Dakopgre, a locality in Tura, have lodged a complaint with the SDO and Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering department, criticizing the alleged supply of contaminated potable water in the locality.

The residents allege that for the past five days the water being supplied to the locality through the Second Phase water pipeline smells of diesel and kerosene.

It may be mentioned that the BSF had spilled a drum of diesel on the Tura-Mankachar road below Tura Civil Hospital through which the Second Phase water pipe line is routed. The spillage reached all the way to Araimile which is around 400 meters from the original point of the spill. The residents have alleged that the spillage may have leaked into the water pipeline, thereby contaminating it.

If the allegations are true then the consumers of the Second Phase water supply have all the more reason to be perturbed. Some of the consumers have started questioning the grade of pipes used for the pipeline.

They allege that if a single day’s spillage of diesel could seep into the PHE water pipes and contaminate the water than what could be the extent of contamination during the monsoon season.

The residents of Dakopgre have demanded an immediate investigation into the matter and urged the PHE department to restore the supply of safe potable water to the locality.
