SHILLONG: The Shillong Lajong FC (SLFC) would have to pay of Rs 50,000 to the State Government for every I-League match the team plays at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.
Confirming this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs Bindo M Lanong said that the department has decided to chargethis nominal amount for the maintenance of the ground.
“We are charging this amount for the maintenance of the ground and also for cleaning of the whole stadium after the match. Besides this, the Government is also paying for the electricity and water which are being used there,” Lanong said while also stating that in fact, in other States including Assam they are charging more then what the Government is asking.
He said that the the SLFC would earn around Rs 20 lakh if the crowds came to watch the match in full capacity.
“Even if half of the stadium is full, the club would earn not less than Rs 10 lakh and hence the amount which is the department is charging is just around 2.5 percent of the total revenue which Lajong expects to collect from the sale of tickets of,” Lanong said.
“I think that SLFC would have a problem to pay this amount,” the Deputy Chief Minister added.
When asked if the same would be charge for the local league matches, he said that the department has fixed a different rate for the State and District matches.
