SHILLONG: Angry over the controversial decision of the referee which led to their defeat against Dempo FC, Goa on Sunday, Shillong Lajong FC lodged a formal complaint before the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Monday against Odisha referee SS Panda for awarding the controversial penalty that ultimately led to a huge ruckus with angry fans venting their ire by throwing stones and plastic bottles onto the ground.

Confirming this, Lajong general secretary Larsing M Sawian has said that that the team has officially lodged a complaint to the AIFF against the referee since they were unhappy with the way he officiated in the match especially the incident where he gifted a controversial penalty to Dempo.

Sawian informed that they have lodged this complaint after reviewing the video clippings of Sunday’s match which saw an improved Lajong side playing to its potential.

He however informed that the complaint letter had referred to some controversial decisions taken by Prabir Dhar who had officiated in the match against another Goan team, Churchill Brothers on January 18.

“In all fairness, yesterday’s match should have at least been a drawn game,” he maintained.

The home team went down fighting against Armando Colaco’s side during the 16th round I-League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex (JNSC) stadium, Polo ground.
