SHILLONG: With one year left for the 2013 Assembly election, the Clean Politics Campaign is looking forward to educate the masses on the need to elect the right kind of people who are capable of legislating laws for the overall interest of the people.
Equating the Clean Politics Campaign with the national-level campaign being spearheaded by Anna Hazare, the founder of this campaign and Nongkrem legislator, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, said that Team Anna was pressuring the political leaders to legislate laws for the benefit of the citizens while his campaign was educating the people on the need to elect people who are capable of legislating such laws.
Basaiawmoit also said the aim of his campaign was to bring about good governance in the State.
“If Bihar could be transformed into a state with good governance then the people of Meghalaya could also do the same,” he added. While maintaining that his campaign is a partyless campaign since it is not siding with any political party, Basaiawmoit also clarified that he was not trying to get mileage out of this campaign.
While informing that the campaign had opened a “public account” in a bank which is subject to scrutiny by the people, he also informed that people have come forward to make donations of even Rs 5 and Rs 10.
Claiming that the response to the campaign was encouraging, he informed that around 70 meetings have already been held in different parts of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and over 6,000 people have registered themselves with the crusade.
The “Clean Politics Campaign” will hold a public rally at Madan Iewrynghep in Laitumkhrah on Monday to provide impetus to the issues it believes could change the face of politics in the State, he added.
For Monday’s rally, apart from the usual speeches, renowned local artistes like Timmy Kharhujon and Phyrnai Marbaniang will enthrall the crowd with numbers revolving around the theme of corruption and politics.
Apart from them, a group of rappers from Shillong, the Pynter Orchestra and Sur Ksiar U Longshuwa will also partake in the rally. A photo exhibition will be an added highlight of the programme, he informed.
