SHILLONG: The Laban Sub Post Office (LSPO) has done it once again in less than a year by keeping its counter closed thereby repeating its past mistake. The first counter at LSPO, which caters to the customers of Laban, Greater Laban and its adjoining areas, was kept closed on Thursday much to the dismay of the customers.

Many customers who turned up at the LSPO counter had to leave empty hand due to the locked counter on Thursday morning. An irritated customer who wanted to send a money order was stunned to see the closed counter. “I was told by an employee that the counter has been kept locked since the personwho mans it is not in station,” he said. It is learnt that the counter clerk has gone to Mairang on official duty but customers on the other hand said it does not mean that a counter will bear the brunt besides affecting hundreds of customers.

Another such customer who went to LSPO to pay her landline phone bill also had to return disappointed. “I stood there for around 20 minutes till 12 o’clock and came to know that the counter will not open when someone ahead of me enquired inside about the reason,” she said. An elderly gentleman said that this is not the first time that this counter is kept closed. “This counter has fooled customers a couple of times in the past. I don’t understand how it can remain closed without the permission of the higher authorities,” he asked.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Head from the Office of Senior Superintendent of Posts (SSP) said that he will look into the matter. Expressing his utter surprise over the matter he said, “They cannot keep the counter locked at their own whims and fancies.”
