Agencies fail to issue new LPG connection applied for in 2010

SHILLONG: City residents are finding it increasingly difficult to get an LPG connection in wake of the Indian Oil Corporation’s inability to meet consumer demands.
While there are many homes with more than one LPG connection, the most affected are those still using the traditional stoves.
“I had applied for the LPG connection in 2010 but till now the agency keeps on reiterating that it will take 3-4 years more to clear the backlog after which I will get my due,” said a resident of Jhalupara.
Due to the heavy backlog, the worst sufferers are those with no LPG connection at all.
Another resident from Nongmynsong said that she had applied for the connection more than one and half years ago, but the agency insists that she will be issued the same only after the clearance of the backlog.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills Sanjay Goyal has decided to hold a meeting with the area manager of IOC on Wednesday to get the latest stock of the situation.
“We have to see the cases and get a review of the situation here,” he said while speaking to The Shillong Times here on Saturday.
The Deputy Commissioner also expressed concern over the trend of having more than one LPG connection in one house while adding that additional connections should be given to those who are in actual need of it.
However, residents in some parts of the city would have little relief as Bharat Gas Agency which has opened its office in Nongthymmai is issuing new LPG connections.
