SHILLONG: The week-long National Integration Camp organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Shillong (NYKS) came to a close in a function held at Youth Hostel here on Sunday.
The camp which started on January 30 saw the participation of over 150 youth from all over the state including those from Poonch District (Jammu & Kashmir), Hailakandi District (Assam), Dhanbad District (Jharkhand), Brgusarai District (Bihar) and Darjeeling (West Bengal).
On this day, prizes were handed to the winners of various competitions which include— folk song, folk dance, quiz competition besides others wherein a group from East Garo Hills District (Williamnagar) managed to bag the Best Team NIC 2012.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, owner of Kim-Hyndai, Shillong Kimfa Marbaniang said in a country like India where almost 70 percent of its population is the youth, it is very important to manage and lead them in the right path to prevent them from getting involved in many unwanted activities like drugs and alcoholism besides others.
Sharing his experiences with the participants, Marbaniang said “As a youth, I never limited myself only to my business but I tried to lend out a helping hand to those young people who are in need of help especially those who have fallen prey to many ills of the society.”Lauding the participants, Marbaniang hoped that one day, they will emerge as leaders to lead the majority and make the future of the state and the whole country bright.
