Shillong: The CID, which is probing into the child sacrifice case in Tura, on Friday, said that the case was on the right track despite the accused Tantrik, Lukman Haqib, being granted bail recently.
A CID official associated with the case said that he came to know about the Tantrik getting bail on Thursday over the phone but has not yet received any court order in this regard.
The body of Krishna Singh, a class II student and son of Kamal Singh, a water carrier with the BSF 121 Batallion was recovered from the BSF Camp at Praharinagar in Tura with multiples wounds and burn-marks during Durga Puja celebrations on October 6, 2011.
Police on December 1 last had arrested the Tantrik who was wanted in connection with the incident. Police had also arrested five BSF personnel in connection with the case, but all of them are out on bail now, the CID official informed.
The CID official also informed that the Tantrik was released on bail for want of material evidences after remaining in judicial custody for 49 days.
“The investigating officer probing the case, who also has experience in working with the CBI, will effect the arrest of the real culprits, shortly. We are confident that the case will be cracked shortly.
“During our recent visit to Tura, we examined maximum number of witnesses in the case. I had moved for a bail objection against the Tantrik but that was rejected on January 15 as there was no material evidences against the Tantrik,” the CID official said.
“We cannot keep the Tantrik any longer in judicial custody as human rights issues are involved,” the CID official said, while adding, “We believe that the Tantrik may have be involved in hatching the conspiracy but he may not be directly involved in the crime.”
