Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today successfully underwent abdominal surgery at a hospital here today, his son Abhishek Bachchan said.

The 69-year-old actor, who has a history of stomach ailments since his intestinal injury on the set of 1982 film Coolie, was admitted to the Seven Hills hospital in suburban Andheri.

Following the surgery, Abhishek tweeted that all was well.

“Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting,” the junior Bachchan tweeted.

Earlier, the doctors also updated the media about the surgery, which has left the actor’s millions of fans concerned about his health.

“He got admitted today morning and he is undergoing surgery right now and the surgery is going on well,” a doctor told reporters outside the hospital. He said that Bachchan had come to the hospital complaining of “pain in the abdomen”.

Bachchan was examined and he underwent tests and it was found that surgical interventions will relieve him of his problems and the actor agreed. He, however, refused to give details about the megastar’s medical condition, just saying he was stable.

“He is very stable… I will not comment on his medical condition, it is his personal thing. All I can say is that he underwent an abdomen surgery,” the doctor said. (PTI)
