4 NCP workers electrocuted during campaign

Thane: Four workers of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) died after they were electrocuted in Kalwa area of Thane on Sunday morning, police said.

The incident took place when they were preparing to take out a campaign procession. Election for Thane Municipal Corporation will be held on February 16. Police said that a flag pole raised by one of them touched a live electricity wire.

While four workers died, six others were injured and admitted to CS Hospital here, police said. Police said the incident occurred at about 11.30 AM in Shivaji Nagar locality, when the victims were preparing for procession of NCP candidate Mahesh Salvi.

The deceased were identified as Ashok P Rajput (15), Ajay P Rajput (18), Anaya Rajput (22) and Pradip G Gupta (21). Ashok and Ajay were brothers. When their mother heard about the tragic incident, she tried to commit suicide by consuming poison, police said. She has been admitted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital at Kalwa. (PTI)
