NONGPOH: The Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has urged the State Government to implement work permit system at the earliest.
The NGO made this appeal during a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district Akash Deep Singh recently.
A RBYF delegation under the leadership of its president B. B Makdoh met the Deputy Commissioner to discuss progress in implementation of work permit system.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya government kick started its initiative to introduce work permits to outside labourers and immigrants by issuing a notification that asked the Deputy Commissioners of the seven districts in the State to start the process of enumeration.
The notification was issued by the Home Department where the deputy commissioners have been asked to assign a district magistrate, a labour inspector and other ministerial staffs to start the exercise.
Talking to reporters, L.K Sawkmie, general secretary of RBYF said, the meeting discussed unabated influx of labourers to the district.
Inauguration of Umkhen: The representative and members of the Raid Thadrang expressed unhappiness over the inauguration of Umkhen bridge saying they were not invited to the programme.
After a delay of almost ten years since its commencement in 2002, the bridge over the Umkhen river was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on last Friday.
The bridge which would interlink the two districts of Ri Bhoi and Jaintia Hills and strategic to the Shillong Bypass, has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 499.03 lakh.
In a statement, S.Khongjoh, the sidar of the Raid Thadrang under the Hima of Khyrim Syiemship said the contractor H. Khongsngi failed to inform the representatives of the Raid Thadrang about the inauguration programme.
