Editor,
The article ”Ideal Parenting’ (ST 12 Feb, 2012) was worth reading. After going through it a question arose in my mind whether the parents of today’s generation are really bringing up their children in a proper and healthy environment. Some days ago I was in Lady Hydari Park with my children and two other families for a picnic. I was not only astonished but ashamed by what I saw there. A teenaged girl (not more than 13 -15 years of age) was roaming in an inebriated condition and was not in a position to stand on her feet. She was walking in the park all alone and finally unable to stand, she sat down on the grass. She had automatically become an eye catcher for all sitting there. I really felt sorry for the girl and her parents. I wonder what compelled the girl to do what she did and whether her parents were aware of their daughter’s bad habit. The prime question is whether she getting proper care and attention from her parents. What are the values of life for the generation of this age? Is money and enjoyment with friends the only meaning of life for our children? I request all the parents having young children, specially teenagers to keep an eye on their day to day activities and their friend’s circle so that they do not repent in the days to come.

Insensitive reporting
Editor,
I wish to express my displeasure at the irresponsible reporting in your daily (ST February 13, 2012) on the incident which took place on February 9, 2012 in between Jorabat and Nongpoh in Network Night Super Bus bearing Registration No. MLO5-0707.
In the report you have been insensitive and callous and have not given thought to the social implication by disclosing the name of the victim, which in my humble understanding is a double assault on a victim who had already undergone the trauma of being victimised. While agreeing that you have the right to publish the news item I wish to question from where the information was received and why the name of the victim was published.
Yours etc.

Our Reporter replies: The news item was from police records which had also mentioned the name of the victim.
Bomb blast in Delhi
Editor,
Monday’s bomb blast on the Israel Embassy car once again exposed the vulnerability of our Intelligence and security set up. The fact that the blast happened at the VVIP area near the residence of Prime Minister and other Ministers underlines the gravity of the situation. If high security and diplomatic areas are not safe, what will be the fate of the common man in the street? India is increasingly becoming a soft target where terrorists can strike at will. It is high time to make a radical review of our intelligence and security set up and revamp the system to ensure that such terror strikes are not repeated in future. Our attitude of declaring high alert and beefing up security after every incident is not going to save the situation unless constant vigil is perpetually maintained, culprits are nabbed immediately and punishment is meted out within a specified time frame..
