Guwahati: A leopard cub was run over by a train at BG ward in Bamunimaidan area of Guwahati on Wednesday.

Police said the dead cub was spotted at about 7am by local people.

The female cub is suspected to have been run over by trains that ply in the sector that connects the FCI godowns and the Guwahati Refinery.

Forest department officials later arrived at the spot and took away the carcass for a post-mortem.

Paw-prints of a bigger leopard were reportedly seen by locals, though forest department officials could not confirm it.

The cub is believed to have strayed from adjoining hills and locals fear that its mother could also be hiding in the proximity.

Leopard terror has been revisiting Guwahati since January, with one person killed and several others injured in at least four leopard sightings in less than two months in the city. (UNI)
