SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong on Thursday clarified that he had never suggested that the proposed railway project from Byrnihat to Shillong should be kept in abeyance.
“What I meant was to leave aside the project at the moment. I have also suggested that if it is possible there should be a re-survey or realignment of the proposed railway project towards the mining areas of Jaintia Hills,” Lanong said in a statement on Thursday.
He also said that realigning the railway project towards Jaintia Hills would be better since it is nearer to Silchar, Assam.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also clarified that he had not targeted the Leshka Hydel Project in his statement that the delay in the implementation of projects in the State was due to human failure.
He clarified that he was referring to various projects whose implementation was delayed and the reference to the Leshka Project was only an example.
“I also stand corrected by MeECL officials that the delay in the implementation of the Leshka project is not six years but it is actually one-and-half years,” Lanong added.
