SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Local Taxi Welfare Association (EKHLTWA) has urged the male drivers driving the pink and white stripes, women taxis to adhere to rules as far as embarking passengers is concerned.

Reacting to complaints by the women passengers who accused the men drivers driving these women taxis of breaking all the rules set by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), the association has condemned such act saying that “These women taxis were launched with a special purpose for the benefit of the women folks and we would like to see it that way”.

Talking to The Shillong Times, EKHLTWA general secretary Wandonbok Jyrwa said though the women taxis are handed over to the male drivers it does not give them the liberty to embark passengers of their own will. “They should abide by the rules and regulations laid by the RTA”, he added.
