BJP for road connectivity to Bangladesh
GUWAHATI:The BJP’s Assam unit has demanded immediate road connectivity between the state and Bangladesh for economic development of the region.
In a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, BJP state unit spokesman Biswarup Bhattacharjee said road connectivity from Silchar in South Assam to Kolkata via Bangladesh and to Chittagong port was a must.
“Laying of a four-lane express highway connecting Karimganj-Badarpur-Silchar with Kolkata through Bangladesh is necessary as also a bus service between Silchar and the neighbouring country,” he said in the letter.
Urging to open the waterway route from Barak valley in Assam to Chittagong in Bangladesh and Haldia port in West Bengal, the party said the river Barak was declared as national waterway and thus it had to be made navigable. (PTI)

Tripura for re-structuring of NEIIPP
AGARTALA: Tripura has demanded restructuring of Northeastern Industrial Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) and include non-manufacturing sectors under purview of the policy, said Industries and Commerce Minister Jitendra Choudhury here on Thursday.
Referring to a meeting with Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma in New Delhi recently, Choudhury said Northeastern states were identified as potential location for service industries including tourism, hotel, Information Technology and IT-enable services but the existing NEIIPP kept out this sectors.
The NEIIPP does not allow the promotional support to Medium Scale Micro Enterprise (MSME), which is considered to be industrial base of the region and only manufacturing sectors, minimal presence are getting support under the policy and as a result, industrial development in NE is in slow growth, Mr Choudhury blamed.
He, however, pointed out taking the advantage of NEIIPP a few outside investors had been showing interest to invest only in manufacturing sector in northeast and small and marginal entrepreneurs involved in non-manufacturing potential sectors were being deprived from the benefits.
Sharma has assured us to take up the matter with Planning Commission for re-structuring of NEIIPP following further and detail consultation with all concerns soon, Choudhury said, adding Tripura was all set to get Border Haats in next fiscal to boost trade with Bangladesh.(UNI)
