KOHIMA: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has urged the citizens to live on their own resources and utilise them to earn revenue for sustenance instead of always depending on New Delhi for financial assistance or grants.
According to official sources here today, Mr Rio said this during his tour to one of the most remote places in the border area of Meluri sub-division under Phek district on Tuesday last, where Mr Rio said construction of roads was very important to provide the basic infrastructure in order to attract investors to explore and exploit the untapped natural resources.
He hoped that in the long run manufacturing and exporting of goods to Myanmar and Southeast Asian countries could be carried out to boost the economy.
The chief minister inspected the ongoing construction at Lüruri-Mimi bridge which once built would be one of the longest bridges in Nagaland and the progress of the ongoing road construction in the rich mineral belt.
He stated in Nagaland most of the developmental works were stopped due to the problem of land ownership, extortion and illegal taxation from “hostile elements” and called upon the land owners and locals to be vigilant and cautioned against such elements.
He said once industries were set up there would be job opportunities and increase in income, which in the long run would “enable us to change our attitude and adapt ourselves to the changing world”.
He made a surprise visit to Mimi village and also inspected the limestone deposits, which are found in large quantity in that area.
Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation officials accompanied and briefed him on the status of the limestone and other minerals in the area, sources said. (UNI)
