Tap national resources to boost income, youths urged

SHILLONG: The 29th District-Level Industries and PMEGP Exhibition organised by the office of the General Manager, District Commerce and Industries Center, East Khasi Hills, Shillong kicked started on Thursday.

Inaugurating the exhibition, the Commissioner of Industries L Kharkongor welcomed the initiatives taken by the Department in organizing such exhibition “which aims at encouraging unemployed youth to establish and start up their own business”.

Meanwhile, CEO of the DCIC N Suting spoke at length on the availability of natural resources in the State while calling upon the youth of the State to exploit these natural resources to boost their income.

“Despite the availability of natural resources, yet there seems to be no end to the problem of unemployment in the State,” said Suting.

“The increase of unemployment among the youth of the state can instill of sense of fear among the youth in terms on their ability to work. They might think they are unemployable and this is very dangerous”, Suting said.

“There is a need to eliminate this concept of unemployability from the minds of the people especially those residing in the rural areas”, Suting said adding that people should avail benefits of various schemes of the Central government.

Meanwhile, Regional Director of Khadi and Village Industries Centre Subhash Mane elaborated on the various schemes initiated by the Central government while stating that the about 70 percent of the fund would be made available by the government to the interested people who desires to start small and micro industries.

On this occasion, the DCIC also felicitated those who have excelled in this field. This exhibition witnessed participation of artisans and craftsmen from different parts of the State.
