SHILLONG: Keeping in line with the Government’s assertion to declare the year 2012 as the year of the youths, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday informed that the State Youth Day will be celebrated in the month of April.
To designate the year for the youths, the State Government has already lined up various programmes and initiatives that will held during the year.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said,” Our policies and investments should focus on youths who are the important group our population.”
It may be mentioned that the State Government has already notified a task force on November 8 last year to conceptualize the initiatives for the youth throughout year.Reacting to a query, Mukul Sangma stated that the Government has already earmarked 120 acres of land in Mawdiangdiang for the construction of a sports complex.
“We have tried to invest more in football since our youths can derive an employment out of it,” Sangma told reporters here on Friday while adding that the Government has also identified a land to create a football stadium of international repute.
According to Sangma, a state of the art tennis court is also in the pipeline to come up at the Sports complex in Mawdiangdiang.
To further equip the youths of the state who are quite talented in the field of music, the music school is soon expected to become functional in the premises of State Central Library.
“We will even support those colleges who are willing to start music classes,” Sangma asserted.
