KSU leader among four in police custody

JOWAI: The President of the Khasi Students’ Union, Umkiang Unit, along with three other members were arrested at Khliehriat for allegedly setting on fire two trucks at Lumshnong during the night road blockade called by the KSU Khliehriat and Narpuh Circle on February 29 in protest against the government’s failure to repair the Jowai-Badarpur road (NH-44).

The arrested persons including the unit president, Phanu Tongper and members – Renaldo Bamon, Jimmy Salahe and Rock Shadap – all residents of Umkiang were produced in the court of the First Class Magistrate, Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division which sent them to 5-day police custody.

It may be mentioned here that on February 29 around 8.30 pm, when a team of Police personnel from Lumshnong camp were executing patrolling duty during the night road blockade called by the KSU Narpuh and Khliehriat Circle they came across two trucks (AS-01-BC-8728 & UP-80B-0553) which had been burnt down at Kluh Mines Junction in Lumshnong area in jaintia Hills district following which a case had been registered.
