NONGPOH: The newly formed Ri Bhoi Wildlife and Environmental Preservation Society (RBWEPS) submitted a five- point chartr of demand to the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner seeking his immediate intervention in the protection and preservation of wild animals and environment in the district.

Signed by its general secretary Thombor Lyngdoh, the society demanded stern action as per law of the land against miscreants engaging in killing wild animals while at the same time emphasized on the need of creating awareness among the people.

The Society urged the district administration for imposing ban on burning of forests, farms and any other forest lands as these activities damaged the herbal medicinal plants and also endangered the lives of wild animals.

They stressed on the need of banning poisoning of rivers and streams by using deadly chemicals for killing fishes and other aquatic life forms.

The society also demanded drastic action against people engaging burning of charcoal and trees for commercial purposes.
