Three killed in factional fight in Nagaland
Kohima: Three bodies suspected to be of GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitivi) cadres were recovered from a village in Nagaland’s remote Mon district triggering tension in border areas, reports received here on Friday said. Police recovered the bullet riddled bodies near Chui village junction on Thursday and they were suspected to have been killed by rival NSCN (K) cadres, police said. After bringing the bodies to Mon police station, necessary formalities and post-mortem were conducted and handed over to their relatives. Following the incident, the situation in Mon remained tense as there were reports of movement of armed members from rival factions in and around the district headquarters town of Mon, sources said adding that patrols by police and security forces had been intensified to avoid further clashes. Meanwhile, apex tribal body Konyak Union condemned the killings of the three members of their community and called for an emergency meeting on Tuesday at its office at Mon to discuss the prevailing situation. ULFA bomb expert held
Guwahati: A bomb expert of the banned ULFA was arrested and a powerful IED recovered in different incidents on the outfit’s ‘Army Day’ on Friday. ULFA bomb expert Tapan Phukan alias Bhabani Khaklary, trained in Myanmar, was arrested from Solmari village in Lakhimpur district. A powerful IED, weighing more than one and a half kg, was recovered during a joint operation by the police and army in Teestapara area in Dhubri district. Meanwhile, security was tightened throughout the state following a directive by the union home ministry on ULFA’s ‘Army Day’ . DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury said that three districts — Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar — were areas of concern and put on maximum alert while Goalpara and Dhubri districts were also vulnerable. 4 killed in road mishaps
Nagaon: Four persons were killed in two different road mishaps in Assam’s Nagaon district on Friday. Two speeding trucks collided head-on at Urigaon area of the district with a cement-laden truck falling into a ditch with 13 labourers. The labourers were later rescued by the local people and the police, but three of them died on way to hospital. In another incident, two speeding trucks collided in Saragaon village killing the driver of vehicle on the spot. (PTI)
