SHILLONG: United Sikkim dented Royal Wahingdoh FC’s chances of making it to the I-League with a 2-0 victory over the club in a final round match of the 2nd Division I-League played at Kanchenjunga Stadium Complex in Siliguri on Monday.
Bhaichung Bhutia’s United Sikkim dominated the proceedings from the word go and nearly went into the lead as early as the second minute after Babatunde missed a golden opportunity to score of a pass from Thou Singh.
They finally drew first blood in the 25th minute after another great through ball from Thou Singh to Quinton Jacobs found the nets. Wahingdoh was denied any real scoring opportunities by the formidable United defence which was up to the mark throughout the match.
Crossing over, Bhutia’s boys continued on an attacking mode and their hard work paid off after former Shillong Lajong midfielder Daniel Bidemi scored a stunner to give United Sikkim a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute. Bidemi could have made it 3-o if not for a fumble in the 82nd minute.
The defeat leaves Wahing doh at seven points from four matches behind leaders United Sikkim and second-placed Mohammedan SC.
