JOWAI: A woman with delivery complication died at the Jowai Civil Hospital due to non availability of blood at the blood bank.

Sources informed that the woman (name withheld), a resident of Panaliar Jowai, died after doctors failed to administer blood to the victim who had been bleeding profusely owing to some complications after delivery.

The newborn baby had also died earlier at the hospital.

Doctors were unable to save the life of the patient who required urgent blood transfusion due to non-availability of blood bank at the Jowai Civil Hospital.

It may be mentioned here that the issue of creation of a fully functional blood bank has been pursued with the government for several years now, but so far there has been no response from the government.

“If blood was available at the Hospital, the woman’s life could have been saved,” a lady social worker in Jowai said, while speaking to this scribe.
