Taekwondo gets State its 1st Gold

 SHILLONG: Prakash Singh won a Gold for Meghalaya in Taekwondo at the XXVI North East Games in Aizawl.

Considered an under dog, Singh ousted his fancied rival from Manipur in the final of the men’s 63 Kg weight category.

Apart from Singh, Hijam Ione Dallo won a Silver in the 46 kg weight category while Thmerichan won a Bronze in the same category in Kyorugi and Poomsae Pair.

The North East Games, organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt of Mizoram in collaboration with Sports Authority of India was was inaugurated by Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla during a colourful ceremony at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium in Aizawl on Tuesday. All the eight northeastern states are participating in the event which would conclude on March 23.
