JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills administration on Saturday dismantled a mandir, constructed illegally on a Government land by the Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee at Khliehriat.

The Sub-Divisional Officer, Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division, CS Laloo and other senior government officials were present during the dismantling of the mandir.

The Secretary, Sarbojanin Durga Puja Committee Rajesh Lyngdoh was also present.

The Khliehriat administration has decided to dismantle the mandir after the puja committee failed to respond to the letter issued on March 2 2012.

The Puja Committee failed to produce any document to substantiate its claims over the land where the mandir was constructed. According to the Khliehriat Sub-Divisional Officer, some members of the puja committee met him on Friday and had requested not to dismantle the mandir. “Since the deadline is over and the request was made without stating any proper reason, the district administration decided to go ahead with the dismantling process,” Laloo said.
