SHILLONG: A teacher is often considered as an instrument of change for the young ones. A need to inculcate this idea among the teachers was felt by the Association for Early Childhood Education & Development (AECED) Meghalaya Chapter who conducted  a one day-workshop for different heads of Institutions as well as teachers at Pearly Dew School, Jaiaw here on Tuesday.

Sharing some thoughts on the topic “Be the change”, Principal of Pearly Dew School Ibarilin Kharsati pointed out that teachers are the instruments of change. “The process of change starts with one of us”, Kharsati said.

She also stressed on the need to let go off bad habits such as jealousy, malice, shyness besides others and all these should start from the teacher itself if they want to see a change.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s famous words—‘ Be the change that you wish to see in the world’, Kharsati said as a teacher this role can be played in a major way as they are the ones who can bring in a proactive change in the life of a student. Besides, she also mentioned that with time, teachers should also upgrade themselves to adapt to the changes that take place in the world by incorporating new ideas, thoughts and technology.

It may be mentioned here that the Association for Early Childhood Education & Development (AECED) is a nationally registered body, working for the interests of the young child, in India. The AECED has grown out of the Indian Association for Preschool Education, formed in 1964 to bring together professionals working with young children.
