Guwahati: The anti-talks faction of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) has denounced anti-China protests by Tibetan refugees on the soil of Assam and called upon the people of Assam not to allow such anti-China activities as there was need for a powerful friend like China for the ULFA to lead the struggle of the people to a just conclusion.
In a statement e-mailed to the media here, the ULFA in reference to a recent anti-China protest held in Guwahati by Tibetan refugees said, “Republic of India has formally accepted Chinese rule over Tibet in 1951.Therefore, there is no logic in India tackling China on Tibet and our people making a fool of themselves by supporting some illogical anti-China activities.
However, India shamelessly playing the Tibet card against China and new phenomenon of giving visible public support to Tibet in Assam is a part of the same game plan. It is blatant interference of the internal affairs of China. Hence, we would like to urge the majority indigenous folks of Assam who are the lifeline of ULFA, not to support this minority pro-Indian groups showing anti-China sentiment.”
The ULFA faction whose leader Paresh Barua is suspected by security forces to have Chinese links, further said, “India treating Assam ruthlessly, we should build bridge with China for our own safety and prosperity.
Such a powerful friend is likely to be crucial in forcing India changing her policy towards us. Hence the public should be vigilant to prevent anti-China activities in Assam.”
The insurgent group further called upon general public in Assam to seriously consider another mass movement similar to the one during 1979 and 1985 (against illegal migration from Bangladesh) against the deployment of nuclear war heads on the soil of Assam and the continued atrocities by the India forces, so that the dire state of affairs in Assam at the hands of Indian authorities could be heard loud and clear by the world.
The ULFA tried to justify its Chinese allegiance by saying, “We are fully aware that to bring our struggle to its just conclusion can’t do without friends. So, it is natural we should seek friends in international arena. We found a friend in Bhutanese establishment and subsequently with Bangladesh too.”
“The consequence of 1962 Indo-China should be an eye opener for the people of Assam. Then Indian Prime Minister Nehru in an All India Radio broadcast gave farewell to the people of Assam while Indian soldiers fled Assam leaving Assamese people to their fate. In the contrast, the Chinese Army even after reaching our border did not occupy even an inch of land. It had proved beyond doubt who is our friend and who our enemy is,” the ULFA stated.
The ULFA also pointed out that Dalai Lama or any Tibetan Refugee leader did not voice any concern against ‘India’s oppressive action in Assam especially when 855 students were shot dead during non-violent democratic movement during 1979-1985.
“We are not aware of any concern being raised by the exiled Tibetan establishment on all atrocities and human rights violation, disappearances and killings of innocent civilians that is going on in Assam during the last three decades in the name of insurgency,” the ULFA said.
