Silchar: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday called upon people to emulate the philosophy of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore to eliminate social evils.
“He (Tagore) had a great humanistic outlook which is very much relevant event in today’s world,” he said inaugurating the two day-long Rabindra Utsav organised by the state government as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the nobel laureate here today.
Tagore, he said, worked all his life to change the archaic pattern of society so that people could lead a life of equality.
Describing Tagore as ‘Vishwa Manab’, Gogoi said despite being born in a family of landlords he worked for eradication of inequality and for creation of egalitarian society.
He also recounted the close relation between Tagore and Assam’s writer-poet Laxminath Bezbarua.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by state Cultural Affairs Minister Pranati Phukan, Irrigation Minister Ardhendu Kumar Dey and Public Health and Engineering Minister Gautam Roy. (PTI)
