NONGSTOIN: UDP’s Nongstoin Youth Wing president Tarsis Mawlot on Monday resigned from the party in protest against the leadership’s decision to field Nassar Marwein from Nongstoin in the Assembly polls due in 2013.

It may be mentioned here that Tarsis is the younger brother of Francis Mawlot, former Minister and President of UDP, West Khasi Hills.

Talking to media persons, Tarsis said, “One can not election with money power only.”

Interestingly, Nassar Marwein, who hails from Nongjri- Nonghyllam, near Borsora along the Indo- Bangladesh border, is the president of the Meghalaya Mine Owners, Exporters Association.

According to sources, more people are likely to quit the party to show their resentment over selection of candidate for Nongstoin constituency. “Francis Mawlot may quit the party shortly,” sources said.
