Shillong: Results of the Bachelor of Education (BEd) examination conducted by the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in December last year are yet to be announced. Students who have written their exams are agitated that they have to wait for the results for over four months.

NEHU Controller of Examinations, Prof Ismail said that the answer scripts were to be corrected by different college teachers but some of them returned the scripts uncorrected after sitting on them for over a month. This has delayed the whole process, Prof Ismail said.

When asked if there was no way of taking punitive action against the defaulting college teachers, Ismail said there is no such provision to take action against any teacher who refuses to correct the answer scripts.

Earlier Prof AN Rai, Vice Chancellor NEHU while responding to the same issue said that unless a system of centralised evaluation is in place this delay is inevitable. Prof Rai also said that one way of cutting delays is to go in for the semester system.

However, it is learnt that colleges are resistant to shifting to the semester system.

Meanwhile students continue to be the scapegoat of this defective system and have to wait interminably for their results.
