CM to meet Dorbar representatives today

 Shillong: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma will meet the representatives of two Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai and Mawiong to discuss the on-going controversy over construction of the Rs 22-crore abattoir (slaughter house) at Mawiong.

“The Chief Minister has called us to his chamber to discuss the issue on Monday,” Rangbah Shnong of Mawiong Rim S Lyngdoh said here on Sunday.

Incidentally, the Chief Minister is scheduled to attend the Entrepreneurs’ conclave in Ampati on Monday. “We have been informed about the conclave and our meeting with Dr Sangma will take place in the morning”, Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh said “No matter what may be outcome of tomorrow’s meeting, we will stand firm on our decision to oppose the project”.

Lyngdoh also informed that in the recent Dorbar Pyllun, the public urged the authorities to suspend the on-going project until the matter is resolved.

The two Dorbar Shnong has been demanding a new placement for the abattoir stating the current situation as a wrong choice on grounds that the current site is situated very close to the marten (dumping ground) at Mawiong.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong, who is also the Veterinary Minister, has maintained that the state government would go ahead with the construction of abattoir at Mawiong despite oppositions.

He informed that the construction of the abattoir was going on in full swing and the government is targeting to complete the said project by this year.
