Ialong celebrates Nohsakhyriat, Shad Sukra fest

 JOWAI: Raid Ialong in Jaintia Hills district celebrated the annual Nohsakhyriat and Shad Sukra festival at madan Nohsakhyriat, Ialong village on Saturday.

PHE Minister Shitlang Pale graced the festival as the chief guest. Sein Raij Jowai president, OR Challam and former Jowai MLA, Sing Mulieh also witnessed the sowing festival besides others.

The celebration started with a ritual known as Bam Tyngkong which including animal sacrifice besides others rituals performed by U Longdoh- the official priest and his nine elders or the Khynde Wasan.

Nohsakhyriat is a performance of women both young and old. It is a seesaw that swings in circular motion. Residents of Raid Ialong also celebrated the Shad Sukra on the same day. Nohsakhyriat and Shad Sukra are sowing festivals and celebrated annually soon on the arriving of the sowing season.
