TURA: Ahead of the much awaited inaugurations of the new districts at Ampati and Resubelpara, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma was felicitated by residents for the recent developments.
The Ampati Citizens’ Forum organised the felicitation programme at Mini Stadium, Ampati, which also coincided with the Entrepreneur Conclave under the Integrated Basin Development Programme.
Visibly delighted Dr. Sangma, while congratulating the people of Ampati Sub Division for being identified as one of the new districts of the State, said that Ampati deserves to be upgraded into a district as it is the farthest sub division from the state capital, Shillong besides being one of the sub divisions located along the international border with Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the North Garo Hills Demand Committee, held an impressive felicitation programme for the CM at Resubelpara on Tuesday. Addressing the gathering, Dr Sangma said that the creation of North Garo Hills will open up new avenues and opportunities besides promoting trade and commerce. He informed that initially the new district will function with an administrative unit, office of the Superintendent of Police, Agriculture and other allied sectors.
Meanwhile, commenting on the important role community can play to bring about overall development Dr Sangma announced an attractive incentive to rope in the participation of the people in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene whereby a cash award of Rs 10 lakh for urban areas, Rs two lakh for blocks and Rs one lakh for hamlets with below fifty households will be awarded.
Dr Sangma stressed on the need for peace in the developmental process and urged the NGOs especially the religious leaders to work towards it with the government .The felicitation was attended by important political luminaries including D.D. Lapang, President, MPCC, A.T. Mondal, Minister, Power and Transport and Saleng A Sangma, Minister, C & RD.
