SHILLONG: The impasse between the Meghalaya government and the agitating social organisations on the issue of enrollment of doubtful voters continued as the NGOs on Friday announced a fresh round of agitation.

Toughening their stand, the three NGOs — KSU, FKJGP and HNYF – will hold a one-day office picketing on Monday.

The office picketing will be effective in all the four districts (East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Jaiñtia Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts), said KSU president Daniel Khyriem on Friday.

Besides the Central and State Government offices, various financial institutions will also come under purview of the office picketing.

“We have decided to hold a one-day office picketing on Monday since the Government has failed to respond to our various demands,” Khyriem said.

According to him, various exercises which the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has initiated are not in consonance with what they have demanded.

“We have demanded immediate suspension of enrollment exercise besides the closure of all the voters’ facilitation cell,” the KSU leader said.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister had urged the NGOs not to call any fresh agitations and wait for the outcome of various exercises including an all-party meet initiated by the Government.
