Businessman shot dead

Guwahati: A businessman was shot dead by in Assam’s Dhubri district on Sunday morning after he refused to cough up the money demanded by two miscreants, police said.

“Two miscreants entered the grocery shop of the deceased businessman, Jhumarmal Jain, after he opened the shop and demanded Rs.10 lakh. As he refused to pay, the miscreants shot him from a close range,” Dhubri Additional Superintendent of Police Deben Deka told IANS. “Although Jain was rushed to a local hospital, he was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities,” police said adding Jain was badly hit by the bullets in his neck and chest.

Police said locals apprehended one of the two miscreants who shot the businessman dead, while the other managed to escape.

The police recovered a pistol from the assailant but the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. (IANS)
