Nongstoin Urban Water Supply tender row

From Our Correspondent

Nongstoin: Following up on the two-week deadline given to the government to resolve the long pending issue of floating tender for the Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme (NUWSS), the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed by KSU (West Khasi Hills), West Khasi Hills Students’ Union (WKHSU) and the FKJGP will hold a meeting at Nongstoin on Thursday.

Two weeks have passed since the NGOs had set their demands to PHED Minister Shitlang Pale and the Chief Engineer PHED to call for the tender. The meeting on Thursday will decide the further course of action on part of the NGOs.

Earlier, the JAC had shot off a letter to Pale informing him of the water woes faced by the people of Nongstoin.

It may be mentioned that the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Nongstoin had raised this issue recently and the various NGOs have supported the cause.

Nongstoin has acute water problems and the people feel that they are being deprived of their right to safe and regular water supply and the cause is supported by all and sundry in the area.
