Guwahati: Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel on Wednesday seized a huge quantity of high-power explosives from a person travelling in a general coach of the Delhi-bound North East Express at Guwahati Railway Station.
A GRP official informed that the haul included 12 high power gelatin sticks, 12 detonators and fuse wires from a passenger of NE Express from Guwahati Railway station. The person has been identified as Mantu Singh from Bihar who confessed that he was carrying the explosives to New Delhi after procuring the same in Mizoram. He was employed in a private company in Mizoram.
Vigil has been mounted all over the city especially in important public places and vital installations in view of the proposed visit of Congress president and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Guwahati on Saturday.
Security forces fear that the anti-talks faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) may attempt terror strikes around Saturday.
The outfit has called for statewide bandh on Saturday to protest against the visit of Sonia Gandhi branding her a ‘representative and super member of Parliament of colonial Indian gvernment’.
