SHILLONG: The GVK EMRI 108 celebrated Pilot Day on Tuesday when it gave away awards to the drivers of 108 Wheels of Hope from the seven districts of the state. The event was attended by Herbert G Lyngdoh, DSP Traffic who thanked the ‘pilots’ for their great job and praised them for their dedication towards the duty of saving lives.
Comparing his department with the 108 Emergency Service, Lyngdoh said that both worked in similar conditions and for the same consumers, the general public. “One of the similarities (in the work of the two departments) is the dissemination of information. If information is disseminated properly, better and quick service can be achieved,” he said.
The DSP also promised to look into issues like the availability of wireless phone in areas where network connectivity is poor and posting of female constable in the Emergency Response Centre.
The seven drivers who were recognized for their exemplary service from the seven districts of the state were Oscar Syiem (East Khasi Hills, Cyclone Sangma (West Garo Hills), Ialam Shaphrang (Jaintia Hills), Jyotish Rabha (Ri Bhoi), Elfizer Sangma (East Garo Hills), Ananda Banai (South Garo Hills) and Stailing Ryntathiang (West Khasi Hills).
