SHILLONG: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) final year students of the undergraduate course in Fashion and Lifestyle Accessories showcased a wide range of aesthetic and intellectual orientation on ethnic materials and fibres during an exhibition on Accessories and Design (AD) here recently.
The range of products designed by the 26 final year students from the first batch was appreciated by many who attended the exhibition at NEHU.
The Fashion and Lifestyle accessories course at the Shillong centre encompasses emerging global business practices with far reaching consequences for the Indian fashion industry.
Keeping pace with the industry it is re-looking at the curriculum from time to time and the course is restructured accordingly.
NIFT Shillong established in June 2008 offers two courses in fashion design (F&A) and accessories design (F&LA) with an intake capacity every year of 36 students in each stream with six being reserved for the domicile of Meghalaya.
The Director of the Institute, Wanri Booth lamented, “We experience a mad rush every year from across the country but ironically, we cannot absorb students for the six reserved seats meant for Meghalaya as we find no takers.”
